Here's the
day as it happened, put into chronological order for easy reading.
Thanks for hanging out with us. It was a grand adventure!
Friday May 23, 2008 We're not even in the hospital yet! Ok, here's the
deal. Jolie and Matthew will be going to the grandparents
house to chill out tonight and relax to start enjoying their summer
while we bring their little sister into the world. Dionne and
I will just be chilling getting ready to go to the hospital.
As it stands, Dionne will be admitted to the
Gwinnett Medical Women's Pavilion at 9am EST where they plan to
induce her into labor. However, the trick is that she
currently has to take blood thinners for a medical condition that
was onset by the pregnancy (blood clots in her lungs), so they have
to reverse the blood thinner before they induce. So it could
be noon-ish when they induce or late afternoon. I'll keep you
posted with room numbers and the whole she-bang as we go. Stay
tuned!
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 7:40am - The Day Well, we're up. Dionne wasn't comfortable last night, so she
slept downstairs. No, we weren't fighting. Anyway, we
have to call the hospital at 8 and make sure they're ready for us
and once Dionne's ready she wants to go to Waffle House for
breakfast. So I'll let you know once I have more information.
I told you I'd update good. Oh and yes, the updates will
appear up here and push the previous updates down. That way
you don't have to scroll all the way down for the update See,
I really do think. Once it's all over, I'll put them in
chronological order so it reads better.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 8:05am - The Day We called the hospital. They'll be ready for us at 9:30.
We're finishing getting ready and heading to Waffle House. (We ended
up eating at Golden Corral for their breakfast buffet.)
Saturday May 24, 2008 -
10:00am - The Day We're here and in the room. This is the Labor and
Delivery room where she will have the baby, so we're only in this
room today. We're in Room 102 which is right next to the
nurses desk. Probably by tonight we'll be moved to the room
where we'll be for 2 or 3 days. I'll let you know what the actual
room number is once we get there tonight. But there will be
lots of updates before then. Right now Dionne is talking with
the nurse and she's asking about all of the health history, blah,
blah, blah. Trying to get my phone to upload pictures to my
computer. Need some moments here...
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 11:00am - The Day The doctor was here and said he's going to break Dionne's
water in an hour or two. When this was done with Jolie, the
baby came less than an hour later, so we maybe knee deep in diapers
before the end of the afternoon. That's it right now, but
while you're waiting,
watch the video of Jolie climbing up the doorjamb.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 12:00pm - The Day The doctor hasn't gotten here yet to break the water, but
Dionne's friend Abbey and her mother got here around 11:30.
We're just all sitting here talking about high gas prices, chick
flicks and other stuff. Dionne's chatting on the phone and we're
watching Little Giants because that's all that's on TV.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 1:00pm - The Day The doctor came in and said he's not breaking her water
because Dionne's blood is too thin according to the blood test they
took. So they've upped the meds to make her blood thicker and
they said that if it wasn't where it needed to be in a couple hours,
they were giving her
Protamine Sulfate that immediately reverses the effects of
Heparin (the blood thinner medicine). So they're re-taking her
blood to do another test to see where she's at.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 2:05pm - The Day No real updates. They had to up the medicine again,
but nothing exciting happened. We ate lunch.
5 minutes later ... Take that back.
Dionne's doctor just came in and said that the new tests were
better, but still not low enough to administer an epidural.
He's going to call the specialist to see about using the
Protamine Sulfate.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 4:05pm - The Day Nothing to report just yet. I was hoping for more info
by now, but nothing. We're all just sitting here watching
television. zzzzzz.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 5:05pm - The Day Nothing. Dionne's blood still isn't low enough.
They're taking more blood to do another test. To make it
understandable in a numerical way, they need her blood to be at
least as low as 38.4. When we got here at 10am, the test came
up at 105. Then the next test was 79. The next was 57.
Hopefully this next test will get us to the magic number we need.
Once it's there, then the water can be broken and the fun can begin.
Jolie came 30 minutes after the water was broken, so we expect a
similar speedy delivery once we can get that number where it needs
to be. I'm going home to let the dogs out since we're set for
a long night folks.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 6:50pm - The Day GREAT NEWS! The numbers came back and it was 41.
They assume that it's been going down since the test was taken, so
they've gone ahead and broke her water. They're coming in to
do the epidural now and Dionne is having MAJOR contractions.
We are close, so let me get to her side. STAY TUNED!!
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 8:00pm - The Day BAD NEWS. The baby will be coming shortly and they
can't give her an epidural. I'm only updating because I can't
get to Dionne with the nurses right now. This will probably be
the last update until it's over. Dionne is in excruciating
pain and now that she can't get the epidural and it's not getting
better. I'll be back later after this is over.
Saturday May 24, 2008 - 8:36pm - It's
Over!! Jadyn Marie Horton has arrived!!! We'll
post some pics later on tonight after all of the commotion is
settled down and we get some uploaded. But here she is! 7
pounds 8 ounces! Dionne did great and the little one is super
healthy. Tune back in tomorrow for a bunch of photos.
